This working paper presents the final results from a survey on job availability rules for unemployed which was carried out by the Ministry of Finance in 1997. The survey cover availability rules for 19 OECD countries. The results form the basis of a summary indicator, the purpose of which is to improve deeper and broader research on factors affecting structural unemployment.
Thanks are devoted to those ministerial colleagues in the responding countries who answered the questionnaire and who helped checking and submitting further input to the analysis. Thanks are also given to members of the Economic Policy Committee (EPC) in Bruxelles and members of Working Party no 1. (WP1) in Paris (OECD) who arranged the contacts.
The working papers from the Danish Ministry of Finance are published occasionally and covers analytical work carried out by the Ministry, some of which have already been published in Danish. The work is selected on the criterion, that it should be of interest to policy-makers in other countries. The papers are directed at economic policy makers and government officials.
